There are those things you know, the things you think you
know, the things you should know, and also the things that you find out that
you wish you had known earlier. Scott Kedersha’s book Ready or Knot: 12 Conversations Every Couple Needs to Have before Marriage
(Baker Books, 2019) is full of those things you wish you would have known.
After almost 30 years of marriage, I was surprised over and
over at some of the things I was reading. They were those AHA moments, when
something that should have been so obvious suddenly appears before our eyes.
Kedersha addresses topics like kids, money, and sex---the
biggies that most couples think about, but there are also discussions about the
point of marriage, communication, emotional intimacy, and several other topics
that are good to discuss ahead of time rather than wait to be blindsided when
things don’t go as planned.
There’s a difference between ‘book learning’ and ‘street
smarts’, and this author seems to have just the right mix of the two.
I wish someone had given us this book when we were engaged,
or even shortly after the wedding (before we had time to learn bad habits.0
I received a copy of this book as a participant in a
bloggers’ program. I was not required to write a positive review.
